Meet Ms. Kay-Rivera!
This is my 19th year teaching high school students in Warren Consolidated Schools. I currently teach Art Foundations, Drawing & Painting and AP Studio Art at Sterling Heights High School. I also am the advisor for the National Honor Society Chapter at Cousino High School.
I have previously taught at Cousino High School for 9 yrs ('05-'14) Flynn Middle School ('13-'14) and Warren Mott High School ('12-'13). Additionally, I have served on the School Improvement Team, Peer 2 Peer Club Co-Founder, French Club, Theatre Director and the Web Master at Cousino. I have also taught Commercial Art/Graphic Design, French 1 & 2 and Web Design. I previously taught K-8 Art at St. Clare of Montefalco in Grosse Pointe Park and completed my student teaching with Clinton Community Schools in Clinton, MI.
In May 2013 I was accepted into the Doctoral Program at Wayne State University, an educational goal of mine. I started classes in June 2013 and am studying for a Ph.D in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in Art Education & Art Therapy. I am really enjoying the program and have had the opportunity to take art therapy classes as well. In December of 2016 I earned my Master of Art Therapy degree from WSU!
In the spring of 2012, I married Jorge, my love of 3.5 years. We enjoy traveling and go on many vacations including Disney World, Quebec, Montreal, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and Japan!
Take a look at this presentation about my, my family, interests and my artwork.
